Before you launch your podcast, you must choose the right host. Buzzsprout and SoundCloud are among the best podcast hosts on the market, but which one is the best for you? Also, is there a third option available?
Buzzsprout: a swift yet expensive service
Buzzsprout started in 2009 and is quite trendy ⛵ in the US. It is great; its interface is user-friendly – yet simple; its audio players are fun; the webpage is customizable. Not to mention their expertise, which they have developed over the past ten years.
Buzzsprout offers a free plan, but be careful as it only includes two hours per month. There are also Buzzsprout ads on your podcast webpage, and your episodes are hosted for only three months. So, this option cannot work on the long term.
If you need more storage capacity, you must pay $12/month. This plan includes up to 3 hours of podcast; every extra hour costs $4. You can also go for a more expensive plan – $18 for 6 hours or $24 for 12 hours 💸 – but all of them feature limited storage options.
Though it is not visible, the automatic reencoding of the audio files can be an obstacle too. Buzzsprout compresses the hosted files, and you must pay an extra if you want to keep the original audio quality.
SoundCloud: a platform for musicians, not podcasters
When you are a beginner and don’t know anything about podcast hosting, SoundCloud is the first name that pops in your mind. You can’t fight it! SoundCloud has built a strong reputation among musicians 🎸 and people in general.
The problem is that SoundCloud was made for musicians, not for podcasters. There aren’t many podcast features; the interface is just not made for podcasts and there aren’t any updates to fix that. Let’s get straight to the point: no podcaster should use SoundCloud ⛔. Any other platform is better.
Also, don’t think that using a famous platform like SoundCloud will help you reach a wider audience. Most people don’t use SoundCloud for podcasts. They prefer real podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Spotify. To sum things up, there are no pros and quite a lot of cons!
Podcastics: the best of both worlds
Our main purpose is to offer you the best value for money in terms of podcast hosting. The Pro plan – the most popular one – costs $9.60/month and includes unlimited storage, unlike Buzzsprout. The features are much more complete than SoundCloud's. Your website is customizable, ad-free and includes blog articles. You have access to the best stats on the market, sexy audio players as well as many other features designed to make things easier and help your podcast grow.
You don’t believe us? Check by yourself! Try Podcastics for free for a month – no need to give us your credit card details! You can then compare Podcastics and its rivals and choose the best host for your podcast! If you have any questions, don't hesitate: our customer service will amaze you with its responsiveness.
