  • Buzzsprout vs Spreaker: what is the best podcast host?

    Podcastics • Community

Before you launch your podcast, you must choose the right host. Buzzsprout and Spreaker are among the best podcast hosts on the market, but which one is the best for you? Also, is there a third option available?

Buzzsprout: a swift yet expensive service

buzzsprout_logo.jpg.29a81d401bb8950199214e491ee68ab8.jpg.f9764e54366d0c03fac3dbdf63313147.jpgBuzzsprout started in 2009 and is quite trendy  in the US. It is great; its interface is user-friendly – yet simple; its audio players are fun; the webpage is customizable. Not to mention their expertise, which they have developed over the past ten years.

Buzzsprout offers a free plan, but be careful as it only includes two hours per month. There are also Buzzsprout ads on your podcast webpage, and your episodes are hosted for only three months. So, this option cannot work on the long term.

If you need more storage capacity, you must pay $12/month. This plan includes up to 3 hours of podcast; every extra hour costs $4. You can also go for a more expensive plan – $18 for 6 hours or $24 for 12 hours 💸 – but all of them feature limited storage options.

Though it is not visible, the automatic reencoding of the audio files can be an obstacle too. Buzzsprout compresses the hosted files, and you must pay an extra if you want to keep the original audio quality.

Spreaker: a thorough tool, but a remote customer service

spreaker.jpg.1fb9177473889ea35a9f8ba602a41592.jpgSpreaker is apparently flawless. It was launched in 2010 and is quite a thorough host; it has almost all the features any podcaster needs – swift and easy broadcasting on all the platforms, a free plan for up to 10 episodes, an €8/month plan including a high storage capacity (up to 100 hours), etc.

However, the €8/month plan only features a basic statistics module. For more detailed stats, you must go for the €20/month plan 💸 or pay even more if you need all the stats in detail.

Spreaker has a couple of flaws too; the interface is slightly messy, and it feels a bit distant from the users. You can only contact the customer service by email, and you often must send reminders to get a reply.
