  • Soundcloud vs PodBean: what is the best podcast host?

    Podcastics • Community

Before you launch your podcast, you must choose the right host. Libsyn and PodBean are among the best podcast hosts on the market, but which one is the best for you? Also, is there a third option available?

SoundCloud: a platform for musicians, not podcasters

soundcloud.jpg.47797108b93574f04e31cba34ea41969.jpgWhen you are a beginner and don’t know anything about podcast hosting, SoundCloud is the first name that pops in your mind. You can’t fight it! SoundCloud has built a strong reputation among musicians 🎸 and people in general.

The problem is that SoundCloud was made for musicians, not for podcasters. There aren’t many podcast features; the interface is just not made for podcasts and there aren’t any updates to fix that. Let’s get straight to the point: no podcaster should use SoundCloud . Any other platform is better.

Also, don’t think that using a famous platform like SoundCloud will help you reach a wider audience. Most people don’t use SoundCloud for podcasts. They prefer real podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Spotify. To sum things up, there are no pros and quite a lot of cons!

PodBean: good prices for an outdated interface

podbean-logo.png.3d8e65b86c57effc325d7c9e96b52169.pngPodBean started in 2006. Pricewise, they're not bad. They have a free plan including a 5-hour storage, a $9 plan for unlimited hosting, and even a $29 plan including all the features.

Unfortunately, the interface is not as good as that of the other podcast hosts. It has not evolved enough over the past few years to match its rivals 😫. Same goes for the features, which are too basic. The website is obviously too limited and is not a great showcase.
