07 - Cité du Vin museum

Play
0 min / Published

On the left bank you have the Cité du vin, a museum where visitors can enjoy an interactive experience whilst discovering more about wine and civilisations throughout the ages. Imagined by Parisian architect Anouk Legendre and the XTU agency, this daring building was inspired by the curves of the wine universe, especially the swirling movement of wine in a glass. The golden glass and steel facing reminds us of Bordeaux’s limestone façades and the blond colour the Garonne river.

Behind the Cité du vin stretches the Bassins à flots district; the locks of the wet docks can be seen to the left-hand side of the building. This reborn area hosts a marina, the Musée Mer Marine and a submarine base built during WWII, now an art exhibition centre.
