10 Years Later: Daft Punk and Random access memories
Review album
In this podcast we talk about an album that broke the boundaries of music bringing back influences and memories from the 70s and 80s but creating a new sound with its own identity. I am talking about Random Access Memories, the fourth and final studio album of French electronic dance duo, Daft Punk, which turns 10 years old today.
Random Access Memories has been released on May 17, 2013, it was Daft Punk's first studio album in eight years and marked a significant departure from their previous work. Instead of relying heavily on samples and electronic beats, the album was recorded with live instrumentation and featured collaborations with a range of artists, including Pharrell Williams, Giorgio Moroder, Julian Casablancas and Nile Rodgers, who co-produced the album and worked on many of the tracks.
The reason Random Access Memories was so different from their previous work was that the duo took a deliberate step back from the electronic dance music (EDM) scene they had helped pioneer.
