A Look What the Lord Has Done Lifestyle.
Key verses: Luke 8:26-39
The backstory here paints a vivid picture of the man, possessed by demons, who encountered Jesus. Scriptures say:
- He had demons for a long time.
- He wore no clothes.
- He lived among the tombs.
- He was bound in chains.
- He has unnatural strength.
- He was alone.
- He was desperate.
Jesus hears his cry, meets his many needs, and transforms his life:
- Jesus casts out the demons.
- Jesus clothed him. (covered him)
- Jesus healed his mind.
- The once violent man was now at peace.
This man desired to "be with Jesus." The meaning of the word is "UNION, ASSOCIATION, COMPANIONSHIP, BESIDE, WITH EVEN COMPLETENESS." For him, following Jesus meant going with Him everywhere physically. To Jesus, it meant taking Jesus into his world.
Jesus sends Him "away," meaning - "set him free completely."
Jesus said, "Go tell of the GREAT THINGS the Lord has done for you.
Great Things means: "LONG, MANY, and MUCH.”
GOD’S WORK NEVER ENDS - IT IS LONG.
HIS WORK IS PLURAL - MANY.
HIS WORKS TRANSFORM US - MUCH.
We must show and tell the world what God has done in and for us, starting with those close to us. They will see and recognize the transformation in our lives. The man ends up doing more than what Jesus asked for. He went to the entire city, not merely telling but proclaiming what the Lord had done. His words now had added authority, gravity, and formality.
Jesus answers the prayers of the unsaved, bound man and even the prayers of the demons. But the prayer of the newly saved man was not answered. Jesus said, "No." We should not be offended when our prayers are not answered. God's no meant that this man would be able to share Jesus with an entire community that shunned Jesus publically.
TAKEAWAYS:
- CONTINUE TO SPEND TIME WITH JESUS PERSONALLY SO YOU CAN RECOUNT THE GREAT THINGS HE IS DOING IN YOUR LIFE.
- BE FAITHFUL AND OBEDIENT, EVEN IF GOD SAYS NO
- FOCUS ON SHOW AND TELL AND GOD WILL ADD AUTHORITY AND GRAVITY
