Valentin Hartmann has just completed his Phd at EPFL in date science and AI. During his final year of research, he focused on the use of AI in language learning. Together with other recent graduates like himself, he set up a start-up specializing in this field. He goes back to the origins of this project, explaining how this tool works to meet the needs of people motivated to learn a new language but lacking the time to do so. During this conversation, we also discuss AI's use of private data and the current means of protecting it, what he considers to be the most useful and relevant uses of AI in his daily life, his concern about the environmental impact of the development of these energy-intensive technologies, and what he would dream of asking AI visionary and pioneer Ilya Sutskever.
