Tumata Helme joined the legal department of the Multipurpose Legal Aid Association (APAJ) as a representative of the public prosecutor following her degree in law and criminology. Today, she is in charge of implementing “alternatives to prosecution” in cases of domestic violence and violence against minors, so that perpetrators can avoid appearing before the courts. She shares her experience with this increasingly popular practice (50% of cases), which ranges from couple's counselling to community service.
