God's SUre Way to Prosperity
David instructed his son, Solomon, to give him a definite path to prosperity. He was to man up and mature into his life. Show Us What You Are Made Of
Key Verse: `1 Kings 2:2-3
Introduction: What does David mean when he says, "Prove yourself to be a man?"
Grow up: The boy must become a man. The co-king (Solomon) must now step into the main role as king of Israel. God is also calling us to spiritual maturity, to grow up, step out of our spiritual sandboxes, and take our places in the kingdom of God.
Toughen up: Let the weak say, I am strong. We must move from helpless to protectors.
To Be Responsible: We must move from oversight to being an overseer. For a season, David and Solomon reigned together. David oversaw Solomon, but that season was about to change. Solomon would soon step into the overseer of Israel's role. Similarly, we should ask the Lord to take us from practice into purpose.
How do we man up? How do we get spiritually strong?
David gives Solomon a clear path and the Lord similarly instructs us clearly.
Keep the charge of God. Each person carries a charge from God. His call in our lives cannot be ignored, denied, or taken away. It is our sense of purpose and destiny. It is a concept the Apostle Paul mentioned in 1 For. 9:26 "I do not run without a definite goal; I do not flail around like one beating the air [just shadow boxing]." How?
1. By walking in God's ways: Ways means "road, journey or direction." We must walk where God walks, being active followers of Christ.
2. By keeping His statutes. His statutes are "something prescribed, manner or custom." We must pick God's prescribed action above any opinion, fad, or inclination.
3. By keeping His commands. These are His orders. The root word here means "to enjoin." We must enjoin us to His will and execute His orders.
4. By enforcing His judgments. God has already decreed these things. We can enforce His kingdom decrees and welcome them into our lives.
5. By remembering His testimonies. This word means "witness." Every miracle and act of God in our lives becomes His testimony. We should celebrate and share them with people everywhere.
The Result: To Prosper in Everything, Everywhere
To prosper means "be intelligent, to understand, have insight, to act wisely and have good success. It means more than getting or accumulating stuff or being blessed with possessions. It also means to be a teacher. (To impart your learned knowledge into other lives.)
