Romans chapter 6 opens with Paul's explanation that if you're baptized in Christ, then you're baptized in his death, meaning that you symbolically die and are reborn as a new person. But you don't have to go back to being the old person you were. You're free!
Either you want to serve sin as its slave or you want to serve God out of gratitude. You can't do both. Why keep working to earn death when God is giving out eternal life for free through Jesus?
