Do you ever wonder how athletes get in "The Zone?" Well on this episode of The Quan Coaching Podcast (Episode #6) we talk about what I believe to be the most critical part of the athlete's mental framework when it comes to performing in "The Zone": detachment, or focusing solely on your present action without attachment to the outcome. Specifically, we will go through some of my favorite spiritual/philosophical teachings regarding how to live in the present moment and not attach to the results of your actions (The Bhagavad Gita, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki, Everything is Spiritual by Rob Bell, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, The Big Red Book by Rumi, If by Rudyard Kipling, and Be Here Now by Ram Dass). Through these teachings and our discussion, we will see how detachment not only allows us to perform more effectively (or arrive in "The Zone"), but also allows us to more fully enjoy our life.
