Introduction
In the book of Revelation, we catch a glimpse of a breathtaking scene. John sees a multitude of people from every nation, tribe, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They are clothed in white robes, holding palm branches in their hands. Their voices rise in unison, proclaiming praise and honour to the Lamb upon the throne. This Lamb, who is also the Shepherd, provides, protects, cares for, and lovingly leads his flock.
The Humble Shepherd
The image of a Shepherd may seem ordinary, but this Shepherd is no ordinary one. He is the risen Lord, who rules heaven and earth. He is intimately involved with his people, guiding them and providing for their needs. Despite his exalted position, he remains humble, never rejecting or abandoning the world that rejects and abandons him.
Proclaiming Hope in the Darkness
As followers of Christ, we are called to proclaim hope in the darkness. We live in a world filled with sin, evil, and death, but we serve a Shepherd who has already won the victory over these forces. He has conquered sin, evil, and death through his sacrificial love on the cross. In the face of despair and hopelessness, we have the assurance that our Shepherd is with us, leading us through the darkest valleys.
Conclusion
By recognising that the Lamb upon the throne is also the Shepherd who lovingly cares for us, we can find comfort and hope in the midst of a broken world. Let us hold fast to this truth and boldly proclaim the hope we have in our risen Lord.
Reflection Question
In what ways can you proclaim hope in the darkness and demonstrate the love of the Shepherd to those around you?
