God Can Do Extraordinary Things Through an Ordinary Person

Season 2022, episode 148

Read Nehemiah 1:1-11. Do you ever feel too inadequate to be called by God? God’s work is not done through the famous. You don’t have to be able to do extraordinary things to be used by God. You don’t have to be a Salvation Army officer to be called by God. God calls every Christian to be a Future Builder. He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Nehemiah was the king’s cupbearer. He tasted the king’s food and drink before the king sat down for his meals. Why? Because in those days, king’s lives were often at risk, and one way to get rid of the king was to poison him. Nehemiah’s life meant so little to those around him, that he could be sacrificed for the king.

Nehemiah wasn’t a prophet. He wasn’t a priest. He wasn’t a preacher. He wasn’t a prince or a politician. He was a lay person, an ordinary church member. He was in a secular job.

But look what God achieved through him! He can work extraordinary things through you too, if you give yourself to being his Future Builder. There is no limit to what God can do through you if you decide to let him do it!

THINK IT OVER

Think about the following:

Do you rely on your gifts and abilities to serve God, or on God himself? What step could you take today to be more dependent on God’s power?
