God Has a Purpose for Your Weaknesses
Today's Battle Drill Devotional: God Has a Purpose for Your Weaknesses
Read 2 Corinthians 12:1-10. How do you feel about your weaknesses? Are you pleased to have them? Or do they frustrate you? If we’re honest, most of us find our weaknesses annoying.
But God’s message to Paul was that his power is made perfect in our weakness. God has a purpose for us and our weaknesses. A good purpose.
As we reminded ourselves yesterday, firstly our weaknesses encourage us to rely on God. If we had no weaknesses, we would have no need of God! We would be self-sufficient. But ultimately, that would be unfulfilling, because we are made in God’s image and therefore created to be in relationship with him and with others.
Our weaknesses help us to value the contribution of others. If we could everything ourselves then we would have no need for other people. Instead, God has designed the world so that I need your gifts and talents as much as you need mine. We need each other.
Our weaknesses also give us a way to serve others. For example, Henri Nouwen wrote about the wounded healer, emphasising that like Christ, the wounds we have experienced in our lives can serve as a great strength and healing when helping others with similar wounds.
God uses our weaknesses to make us more like his Son, Jesus Christ as we learn to depend on him and come to see that he uses even the bad stuff in our lives for good.
