God Nails Our Wrongdoing to the Cross
Today's Battle Drill Devotional: God Nails Our Wrongdoing to the Cross
After they had nailed him to the cross, the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. (Matthew 27:35)
Read Matthew 27:32-44. When a Salvation Army officer moves from one Quarters to another several people will come and inspect both homes. It can be a sobering experience! All those flaws that perhaps you don’t notice are suddenly brought into the light! That needs redecorating. This piece of furniture should be replaced. That needs a good clean before you move. And so on.
I wonder how we would feel if God produced a list of our weaknesses for us. A snagging list if you like. I know some of my flaws, but God who knows all things and has been resident in my heart for over 40 years must know so much more. If you had a list, would you be willing to share it? What if it was made public? Imagine it displayed on the LCD screens on Piccadilly Circus!
I have bad news for you: that list has been made public! Fortunately, you have never seen it. And neither have I. But echoing the words of Paul in Colossians 2:14, Stuart Townend in Song No. 32 in The Salvation Army Song Book, writes, “It was my sin that held him there, Until it was accomplished”. The record of our sins, the list of our weaknesses, was nailed to the cross with Christ’s hands. That’s what held him to the cross. But it’s good news because that list has been blotted out by Christ’s blood. If you will accept the outstretched arms of Jesus, then you too can proclaim, “But this I know with all my heart, His wounds have paid my ransom”. Praise God!
THINK IT OVER
Think about the following:
How does it make you feel to know that Jesus “did not want heaven without us” (What a Beautiful Name, Ben Fielding & Brooke Ligertwood)?
