God Will Not Abandon You
Today's Battle Drill Devotional: God Will Not Abandon You
Along the way, they came across a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. (Matthew 27:32)
Read Matthew 27:32-44. One of my favourite Easter songs, ever since Basingstoke Songsters introduced it to me is Via Dolorosa, “the Way of Sorrows”. It tells of Jesus’ tortuous journey down up from Pilate’s Hall through Jerusalem to Golgotha, the Place of the Skull.
But of course, Jesus’ journey to the cross did not start at Pilate’s Hall. It began in the mind of God. His plan has always been to reconcile you and me to himself. From the very first moment in time, God has been searching for us. Reaching out to us. And when sin first marred his creation and our lives, he has been seeking to reverse our rebellion.
Christ’s journey to Calvary leaves us in no doubt just how far God is prepared to travel to win us back. There is nothing we can do to make Jesus take that journey for us. We can never be good enough to be rescued. But there is nothing that we’ve done that will ever stop Jesus from making that journey for us. No one is too bad to be rescued by God. Whatever your journey looks like, Jesus will still walk – still stumble along – the Way of Sorrows for you. Will you allow him to reconcile you to God?
THINK IT OVER
Think about the following:
Are you more susceptible to pride or shame? Why do you think that is?
