Helping Each Other in Love
Read Matthew 22:34-40. Sometimes I think the best way Gail tells me she loves me is by bringing me that first mug of coffee in the morning! Doing things we know people like us to do is a fantastic way of expressing our love for them.
Every week I see people helping others into work, supplying food, cooking lunch, playing, and singing music, teaching, and leading, using technology, texting, and phoning, running errands and all sorts of other activities as a way of serving God and expressing love to others.
I thank God for those who make the choice to serve God and show their love for others in many acts of service each week. Sometimes, the best way to tell someone you love them is by asking, “What can I do to help you, today?”
Why not spend some time in prayer asking God how you can serve him today. Be attentive to the opportunities he brings to mind. You could donate some clothing or other goods to the church or a local charity. Or perhaps you can think of someone who may benefit from your help at this time, either by offering to walk their dog, making dinner for them or helping them with the weekly shopping, for example. Today is the day to Love God and Love Others by carrying out an act of service in his name.
THINK IT OVER
Think about the following:
oWhat are some of the ways you could decide to serve someone today?
This week’s devotionals owe much to The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman (2010, Northfield Publishing) and material produced by The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and Ireland in connection with Covenant Sunday 2022.
