Light Seed
Key Verse: Psalm 97:11
Introduction: Our key verse says, "Light is sown to the righteous and gladness to the upright in heart." God essentially treats light as a seed. His first act in nature was to sow light through His words, "Let there be light." He also sows His Son, Jesus, into our soul-soil (the most fertile soil on the planet) for the Light of the World to grow in, transforming us into the light of the world as well.
What is Light?
The original word here means "illumination, lightning, and happiness." In Psalm 112:4, we read, "Light arises from darkness for the righteous." To sow means here, "to scatter seed, to become pregnant or producing." The implication is to increase the amount of light God has planted in us and to allow that light to be birthed or to grow through us, impacting other lives.
God sows light as a seed.
Jesus is our Light. He is Heaven's seed sown into our lives. But this is merely the beginning of God's work in us. Finding Jesus is a start. We need to invite Him to grow in every area of our lives.
Light, in this context, is also connected to happiness and joy. Let us remember the night is over. Isaiah says, "Arise, shine. Your light has come." No more doom and gloom. Our future is bright; the past is illuminated, and the present is revealed. We should also sow light into a dark world, allowing His light to shine through every area of our lives. We are to "proclaim His praises who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light." (1 Pet. 2:9)
