La Charte Internationale Espace et Catastrophes Majeures existe depuis plus de 20 ans. C'est une coopération entre 17 agences spatiales dans le monde qui fournit un service 24/7, toujours activable pour,  en cas de catastrophe majeure, programmer très rapidement des images satellites et fournir gratuitement ces images et des cartes dérivées aux équipes de secours qui interviennent sur le terrain.
