Today's #BattleDrill: Read 1 John 2:15-17. How do you know the difference between God’s values and the world’s values? You open and read God’s word. #salvationarmy #basingstoke #devotional
God’s will is revealed to us through his word. If you want to know what God wants you to do, the choices he wants you to make, the Bible will tell you. It teaches you God’s principles and gives you his guidance. You can test your choices against it. You can challenge your conscience with it. You can check your circumstances against it. The Bible will confirm God’s values and warn you against worldly ones.
Your small group of Christian friends can help you open and study your Bible. You can meditate on it together. Take a small piece of text – like this week’s passage – and each read it slowly, perhaps from different translations, to allow you all to focus on it deeply and to think about what it is saying to you. Some of you might want to respond to what you’ve read or discuss a word or phrase that leapt from the page to you.
If you want God’s word to transform the choices you make, you need to spend time reading and studying it. How will you discern God’s will for you today?
THINK IT OVER
Think about the following:
oWhat is the purpose of meditating on God’s word with a group of Christian friends? Why not just read it on your own?
