Episode 14: St. Anne
I am Anne, the mother of Mary! My husband Joachim and I are the grandparents of Jesus!
Our names aren’t in the Bible but we are Mary’s parents and God let us play a special role in preparing her at home for the amazing plan God had for her.
For many years my husband and I desired to have a child, but we were not able. But finally, at a time when we did not expect, the Lord God answered our prayer. His timing is perfect! Our beautiful daughter Mary is humble, generous, and prayerful in everything that she does. Most days we feel like she is teaching us to love God more than we are teaching her. And now, she is expecting a baby! She will be a wonderful Mother.
We are grateful to God that he let us have the special role of being the grandparents of Jesus! Grandparents are a special part of every family. They share wisdom, experience, and faith with the rest of the family, especially the youngest.
As you prepare for Christmas, today is a special day to thank God for the people in your family who shared their faith with you, especially your grandparents.
God loves our families and loves to share special gifts from grandparents down to their children and grandchildren.
Lord Jesus, thank you for the example of Saints Anne and Joachim, the patron saints of grandparents. Just as you gave them Mary at an unexpected time, help me to know that you will be at work in my life in surprising and unexpected ways too.Although I do not know what tomorrow has in store, I trust in you and give you all of my worries. Please fill me with hope and faith. Amen!
Thank you for listening to our podcast! Tune in tomorrow for Episode 15 when we will hear from John the Baptist in the Womb.
Prayer Starter for Parents
God loves the family and designed it to be the most basic building block of the Church and society. St. Anne reminds us of the special role God has given to grandparents. Here's a prayer for grandparents you can pray together with your kids today:
Lord Jesus,
you were born of the Virgin Mary,
the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne.
Look with love on grandparents all over the world.
Protect them! They are a source of blessing
for families, for the Church and for all of society.
Support them! As they grow older,
may they be strong pillars of faith for their families,
guardians of all that is good.
May they teach us with wisdom and courage,
and pass on the faith to future generations.
Mary, Mother of all the living,
keep our grandparents constantly in your care,
accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage,
and by your prayers, grant that all families
may one day be reunited together in heaven.
With confidence we ask our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
