Today's Battle Drill Devotional: Your Faith Needs a Bench Press!

Strengthen yourselves so that you will live here on earth doing what God wants, not the evil things people want. (1 Peter 4:2 NCV).

Read 1 Peter 4:1-11. Last year at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Great Britain obtained its first female medallist in weightlifting when Emily Campbell gained a silver medal when she lifted 161 kilogrammes.

It takes a lot of strength training to lift almost twice your bodyweight! Your faith also needs a workout to continue to grow. What can you do to strengthen your faith? You need to practice what we call “means of grace” – workout programmes for your faith.

These include studying the Bible. You can do that by following these devotionals, paying close attention to the Bible Message each week and discussing the Bible with friends in a small group.

You can read Christian books and articles. Many wise and experienced Christians have committed their words to paper and we can benefit from learning from them.

We can also think about our testimony. Salvationists should always be ready to testify about what God is doing in their lives. But not of all of us can stand up on a moment’s notice and speak out our testimony. So we need to be ready. Someone might ask you about your faith today. What would you say to them? Think about writing something out. It’s amazing how often God gives us an opportunity to share when we’ve prepared ourselves to do so.

Be faithful to your church family. Meet with them on a Sunday. Join in worship with them. And support and encourage a small group of people.

Practice these habits and you will be a spiritual weightlifter!

THINK IT OVER

Think about the following:

What Christian books could you recommend to a Christian friend or your small group?
