---- About Brenda ----

Growing up in South Bend, Indiana, I was raised by a family who taught me the value of pursuing my greatest aspirations and desires. Through this, I have developed a passion for helping others become the best versions of themselves and achieve a life that is meaningful. It is my mission in life to empower, encourage, and help others navigate a successful life as I have done for myself in times of hardship.

At the age of 40, I suddenly lost my eyesight due to a virus that attacked my optic nerves. As a result, two incidents occurred that impacted the trajectory of my situation. First, I recall sitting in church listening to a minister say, “You must start by loving yourself.” Not knowing or really understanding what this meant, I started working with a spiritual practitioner. The first assignment given to me was to stand in front of a mirror and say “I Love You” repeatedly on a daily basis. This exercise changed my life forever and taught me to love myself; I continue this practice daily.

The second incident occurred when I met a woman who would help change the course of my life. The woman I met was a counselor with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. She guided me in learning alternative options that would enable me to function in the world of the blind. With assistive technology, I was able to find the strength to get my life back on track. Despite my newfound challenge, I know that my path changed in a positive way.

Ultimately, I persevered by returning to college and earned a degree in Human Services. Soon after, I attained my master’s degree and became a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I use this example of my personal life experience to prove that it’s not what happens to you, but what you do with what happens to you. This became the title of a commencement speech I presented at my 1999 graduating class at Metropolitan State University.

Transcending the odds to achieve success, I found unprecedented joy facing life’s obstacles. It is my mission in life to be a model of positivity and productivity, which is the very reason I started Mosby Services. I wanted to start an employment service based on the premise that being disabled does not mean employment opportunities are out of reach. No one is an island: if I did not have people help me discover alternative methods for learning and understanding how success can be achieved, I personally may have never acquired the wonderful life I currently live.

Through my vision and passion for helping people, I aspire to be a bright light in the darkness that often accompanies those struggling with a disability. I understand that oftentimes it can feel overwhelming to find available resources. I have personally been in this position, which is why I am passionate to share what I have learned with anyone who may be facing challenges similar to those I once did.
